So Tellus and New Berlin are effectively at war, yet both are Lutheran Christian nations, missionaries having been sent from New Berlin across the planet. My question is, how much interaction is there between the New Berlin and Tellus churches? Does New Berlin still have some influence over churches in other nations or do they largely operate independently?

Adam I would say that Tellus and Tethys received Lutheran missionaries but also have "indigenous" Christian churches. Lutherans would have a great deal of influence there, but nothing like total control of Christianity.
And I set up my pilot story so that New Berliners who settled in Tellus and Tethys showed a tendency to "go native" and support the local officials over New Berlin. In theory this would not be as true in other areas in which New Berlin sent governors and missionaries.
So an untold consequence of my pilot story would be the fact that Lutheran organizations have split, just as political powers have done (note Lutheran Denmark and Lutheran Sweden went to war against one another many times). Though one could write a story documenting that split in which some Lutherans outside of New Berlin stay loyal to it and some do not...
