While it is my intent to create a Venus that is overall Victorian in culture, it certainly is true there would be remote islands and inland areas in which Victorian culture does not predominate. Which was in fact true during the Victorian Era itself.
Note I'm thinking of creating an all-female warrior society on one of my islands. Not sure if I will carry it out, but such explorations with totally different cultures are possible in this story world. Just bear in mind such cultures will obviously clash, probably in an openly negative way, with the powers-that-be that reside in New Berlin...

Good to know. So New Berlin's reach has not extended so far as to create a monoculture.

Good to know. So New Berlin's reach has not extended so far as to create a monoculture. They'd like to bring things that way. But have not yet succeeded.

How long has New Berlin had control over its neighboring lands? Would a young person remember a time before they showed up and imposed their culture on the locals? Asteria is pretty close to Ulfrun, so I reckon it would have been among the first to be invaded.
I want a heroine who's young, but old enough to remember what things were like before the invasion. Is that possible?

Kristen, New Berlin is on the Western slopes of the Ulfrun peninsula and we can postulate easily enough that it expanded west before it crossed the peninsula and built a port city on the east side of the Ulfrun. In fact that's even consistent with my story in that the Tellus and Tethys alliance flew airships around the world, westward, to attack New Berlin from the east, from the direction of Asteria. Obviously that's to hit New Berlin on the side with less development and anti-aircraft placings.
So, yeah, pick a number of years, say 45 or so Earth years (which would be 60 Venus years) and that can be when the first military expedition could have landed in Asteria. Or more if you like. (Before that though, there would be some other New Berlin contact for Asteria, fishermen or merchants or something.)

I was thinking more like 10 years. Oh well. I'll scrub round it, and you let me know what you think when you see the story.
